Name:SST Laboratories Siege Automaton E54 ("Bastion")
Birthdate:Jul 15
Location:Eichenwalde, Germany
Bastion is a slightly-over-seven-foot-tall, quasi-humanoid combat droid capable of transforming into an autonomous but stationary machine-gun turret or a miniature tank. When in Configuration: Recon, their default bipedal mode, the rotary machine gun from Configuration: Sentry is clearly visible but cannot be fired. Instead, their right arm has a submachine gun below the elbow instead of a hand. Their left arm has a hand for fine manipulation and also contains an extendable welding tool and repair nanobot dispenser for use with their self-repair function (and for waving at allies when their arms are folded up in sentry configuration). They have a few extra joints to facilitate their transformations, and are capable of rotating both their head and their waist a full 360 degrees; their overall body shape in recon configuration follows the same two-arms-two-legs-one-head blueprint as humans but it would be effectively impossible to mistake them for a human beyond being the same rough shape and proportions.

Their face, such as it is, is simply a single large rectangular glowing eyepiece on the front of their head that can change colour or flicker to reflect their state of mind but is most often a steady cyan. Since reconfiguring involves tucking their head far enough out of the way that they can't actually see out of their main optic, they have supplemental eyelights in their shoulder armour that become visible in Configuration: Sentry and one extra in their chest armour, which follow the colour of the main eyelight. Red eyelights indicate that their combat protocols are currently in active control, the color change being a pre-Omnic-Crisis safety feature designed to warn humans to act with caution around an armed and active Bastion unit. In this state, conscious thought takes a backseat to threat identification and elimination.

Bastion units are incapable of producing humanlike speech, unlike android-style civilian omnic models. Their audio output consists of whistles, beeps, whirs, and other electronic noises. However, Bastion understands multiple human languages spoken in the part of the world where they were built, including German, English, and Swedish. They can communicate with other omnics using wireless transmissions supplemented with beeps, the audio component mainly conveying tone. (This will probably work for other worlds' robots as well.) Unfortunately, due to their inability to send electronic signals natively, humans generally cannot learn to speak omnicode without cybernetics. When Bastion speaks, it sounds like this or this.

In addition to Configuration: Recon and Configuration: Sentry, Bastion can also access a third configuration for brief periods, Configuration: Tank. A full transformation into Configuration: Tank draws so much power that it can only be maintained for a very short period of time, perhaps a few minutes at most. Most of the power draw goes towards upgrading their main gun to fire tank shells; partially transforming to swap their legs for tank treads is significantly less strenuous.

Bastion is usually accompanied by a small yellow-green songbird companion of unclear species named Ganymede, who they befriended when they reactivated in the Black Forest. Sometimes Ganymede flies off and does his own thing for a while, but he always comes back. Ganymede is probably a fairly normal bird with no special powers, albeit a very intelligent one who has an unerring instinct for returning when Bastion needs him and staying out of the way when it's not safe to be around them (for instance, during a firefight).

Translated omnicode is written with a double slash (//) in front of the dialogue instead of quotation marks, in italics if a character with a wireless receiver (or some other way to pick up the transmission, like technomancy) is present and whitetext if they can only perceive the beeps.

Bastion is on T-Minus as derelictConservationist. Since they don't have pockets, if they're able to answer the device it will be visible on their person; otherwise, Bar has it.

The mun can be found via PM, on Plurk at [plurk.com profile] cameoappearance, or PM me either here or at [personal profile] cameoflage for my Discord username because I don't like having it out where any passing spambot can scrape it.

Bastion is from Overwatch, and is the property of Blizzard Entertainment. They appear here solely for the purpose of role-playing in [community profile] milliways_bar, [community profile] come_sailaway, and similar communities, from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
